My Rhino

My Rhino

Gallery GM and Sarah Güsten-Marr have always supported efforts to preserve African Wildlife. According to Güsten-Marr, “Art is a universal language and like music, is a wonderful healer. By highlighting the illegal killing of these and other beautiful animals that roam the African lands, we are drawing attention to this very sad situation. I have seen Rhino’s in the wild during my travels to South Africa and to call them majestic is truly an understatement.”

For the past few years, Sarah Güsten-Marr has been working with the My Rhino Initiative in South Africa to raise funds to support the preservation of African Wildlife in coordination with the Kariega Foundation, Endangered Wildlife Trust and Poached Rhino, through the sale of hand-painted unique ceramic rhinos by well-known and emerging African artists. In 2014, Güsten-Marr was invited by the Co-founders Heidi and Nicholas to create a design for the My Rhino collection. The large scale original was sold at the Or-gari Golden Safari’s Annual “My Rhino Africa” Charity Auction to the CEO of Sun International Hotel who placed the highest bid for Güsten-Marr’s unique ceramic rhino called ‘Earth’.

Wendy Homewood - Journalist and Documentary film-maker:

"I know how honoured Sarah felt when she was asked to travel to South Africa to become one of a very small and exclusive group of talented artists contribution to "My Rhino", a project committed to helping prevent these iconic creatures being poached for their horns and driven to extinction.
Sarah's creation is just as vibrant as she is. And the theme she has chosen for her rhino - the four corners of the Earth, with each leg representing a corner - reflects everything that is most important to her."

After the incredible success of the ‘My Rhino’ campaign, the founders of ‘My Rhino’ Heidi and Nicholas invited Güsten-Marr to continue her work with the organization and in 2015, Güsten-Marr travelled back to South Africa to participate in the creation of the new Dung Beetle Collection. Her design for the Dung Beetle was featured in Liveoutloud Magazine.
